Unlocking your charisma in 2024

Use your face to reach success

Your face is telling a story.

You might think you know what it is.

But most people have no clue what their face is doing.

Is your face secretly sabotaging your success?

Here I will give you the method you need to train your face!

First impressions

"You need as little as 30 to 40 milliseconds of exposure to a face to form an impression of it." -A. Todorov

Your face always communicates and before you utter a word, people have already formed an impression of you.

The face is the nr 1 neglected aspect of a personal brand.

How to train the face

“He whose face gives no light, shall never become a star.”

Your face is the primary tool to radiate your inner creative vision to the world.

Through the face others can read the very depth of your soul.

But it needs to be trained to fully express who you are.

My teacher Jeff has given me 3 tools to train the face:

1) Face brushing - Move your face around in all possible directions

2) Facial flex - Particular directions like "top down, bottom up", "top left, bottom right"

3) Show emotions with the face - pick a random emotion and show it.

Telling stories with emotion

In my theater classes I like to work with emotions.

Students tell improvised stories with different emotions called out to tell the story with.

This requires expressing the emotion with the face.

You can do this at home and record your voice - how emotional does it sound?

Using the face to change your voice

"The face is the remote control for your voice"

- Vinh Giang, STAGE Academy

Our voice, face and body form what acting trainer John Sudol calls the Emotional triad.

What we do with our face and body effects the voice.

Check out this short clip with Vinh Giang explaining the connection!

Which emotions?

What emotions should you focus on?

Psychologist and face researcher Dr Paul Ekman found that there are 7 basic emotions:

• Happiness

• Sadness

• Anger

• Fear

• Surprise

• Disgust

• Contempt

If you can master expressing these with your face you have come a long way!

The types of facial expressions

Dr Ekman also found 3 types of facial expressions

Macro - these are the regular kind of facial expression

Micro - lasts a fraction of a second and can reveal true emotion

Subtle - often in one region of the face, may occur when a person is trying to conceal a strong emotion

Getting in to emotional alignment

Emotional alignment is what face expert John Sudol calls the relationship between what a person feels and what they actually express on the outside.

The goal of face training is to reach emotional alignment. This is where you can truly be authentic and express yourself fully.

Choosing to smile

Remember that you can always choose to smile - this is the best way to use your face!

My mentor Dr Barry Morguelan is teaching me that at every moment we can choose our emotions. So pick good ones that you want to share with others.
